Couples Counselling

At Somara Therapy, couples counselling provides a supportive environment where both partners can feel heard, respected, and validated, even amidst tension or disconnection. My approach is rooted in the understanding that relationships don't face challenges because individuals are "broken"; rather, it's the patterns that develop over time that can leave partners feeling stuck, misunderstood, or isolated.

In our sessions, I help you slow down and delve into what’s happening beneath the surface of your conflicts. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we examine the thoughts, assumptions, and communication habits that shape your interactions. Couples often find themselves trapped in cycles of misreading intent, reacting impulsively, and unintentionally reinforcing the very distance they wish to close. Through CBT, we can gently identify and shift these patterns, promoting clearer, more intentional, and more effective communication.

Additionally, I incorporate somatic experiencing techniques that focus on how emotions and stress manifest physically in the body. When relationships feel strained, it isn’t just a mental experience; it’s physical too. You may notice signs of tension, defensiveness, or overwhelm. By bringing awareness to these bodily responses, we create space between trigger and reaction, allowing each partner to remain present, grounded, and capable of responding rather than simply reacting.

Together, these approaches foster:

- More effective communication and respect

- Greater awareness of emotional and physical responses

- Reduced reactivity during conflicts

- A deeper sense of safety and connection

I work collaboratively with both partners, helping you build practical tools while nurturing compassion—for yourselves and each other. This process isn’t about assigning blame or determining who is "right"; it’s about deepening your understanding of one another and establishing new ways of being together in your relationship.

Whether you are navigating ongoing conflict, rebuilding trust, or simply desiring to feel closer again, couples counselling at Somara Therapy offers a steady, supportive space to reconnect and move forward together.
