I offer a complimentary 15 consultation to help determine whether we are a good fit for working together. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful counselling. Because healing happens in connection, it's important that both client and therapist feel comfortable and aligned in working together. This consultation provides an opportunity to ask questions, discuss your goals, and explore whether Somara Therapy is the right fit for your journey.
Your first counselling session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. We will discuss what brings you to counselling, your current concerns, relevant personal history, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. You are welcome to share at your own pace, and there is no expectation to discuss anything you are not ready to talk about.
The first session also includes a review of informed consent. Informed consent is an important process that ensures you understand the nature of counselling, the approaches that may be used, potential benefits and risks, confidentiality and its limits, record-keeping practices, fees, cancellation policies, and your rights as a client. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns before providing consent to proceed with counselling services.
By the end of the first session, we will typically identify your goals for counselling and discuss possible next steps, including recommendations for future sessions. The pace and direction of therapy will be tailored to your individual needs and preferences.
Counselling can be helpful if you are experiencing emotional, mental, relational, or life challenges that feel difficult to manage on your own, You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people seek support to better understand themselves, improve relationships, manage stress, navigate life transitions, process difficult experiences, or work toward personal growth and well-being.
You may find counselling helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, stuck, disconnected, or simply looking for a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Counselling can also provide practical tools and strategies to help you cope with challenges and make meaningful changes in your life.
Deciding whether counselling is right for you is a personal choice. An initial sessions can be a valuable opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and determine whether counselling feels like a good fit for your needs and goals. Together, we can explore how therapy may support you and whether the counselling process aligns with what you are looking for.
Coverage for counselling services varies depending on your individual insurance provider and plan. Some extended health benefit plans may reimburse counselling sessions provided by a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) who is a member of the CPCA, while others may not. I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to verify whether services provided by an RPC (CPCA) are eligible for reimbursement under your plan. You may wish to ask specifically if counselling by a RPC licensed under the CPCA are covered.
Receipts are provided after each sessions and include the information typically required for insurance submission. Clients are responsible for confirming coverage and submitting claims directly to their insurance provider.
